Rep Teams Overview

About the Rep Teams

We are pleased to offer Pakmen Rep teams for competitive players who want the challenge of training with peers with similar abilities and competing in Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) and Volleyball Canada tournaments and championships. This year, we are proud to add on another new girls team, bringing our count to 10 teams, which includes 6 boys teams & 4 girls teams. Over the next two years, we hope to add more girls teams to cover all age groups, as per our plan to bring our girls division at par with our boys division. Our teams have players from many different schools, different towns, and we are Canada's most diverse volleyball club known! The club has won 14 Ontario Provincial Championships and 4 National Championships including the prestigious 18U 2008 Canadian National Championships title.

Training

Rep players train twice per week. U13 and U14 teams normally train from  6 to 8 pm and U15, U16, U17 and U18 teams normally train from 8 to 10 pm. Competitions are normally held once every 4 to 6 weeks. Some teams may elect to also play 'up' in an older age group and compete more often. Competitions are usually held within the GTA but occasionally held outside this region. Our coaches are NCCP certified volleyball coaches.

Fees

Pakmen Volleyball is a registered not-for-profit organization driven by volunteers. Our club fees are strictly based on breaking even. We are sponsored by Nike and our fees are among the lowest in the OVA. Anyone interested in trying out for a Rep Team must attend the tryouts in September (tryout schedule will be posted soon). There is a $25 tryout fee (includes a Pakmen T-shirt). U13 and U14 players can expect to pay somewhere around $500 in fees for the 2009-2010 competitive season. This includes 3 practice t-shirts, 1 special Pakmen shirt, 1 Nike game jersey and 1 pair of Nike shorts. It also includes all practices and OVA tournaments including the Ontario Provincial Championships. Please note that this estimate does not include travel expenses if players compete out of town. The only fundraising commitment is selling ten $5 raffle tickets per player. U15 to U18 team fees are greater than the U13 and U14 team fees because players on these teams also receive a second Nike game jersey (different colour) and a Nike Pakmen tract suit. In addition, they may compete in more tournaments than the younger teams, including the Nationals. Team fees for each team will be presented in a budget and discussed and finalized at a parents meeting, right after the team has been selected.

Are the Rep Teams right for you?

The Rep Teams are for the most advanced volleyball players. Many talented volleyball players try out for our Rep Teams but they don't get in because we only have limited spots available, not because they aren't capable. For those who are gifted volleyball players, but have other commitments, we recommend trying out for the GTA Premier League. This league is for the top 54 players in the GTA and will train exactly like the Rep Team players, only once a week instead of twice. Also, they will compete against each other (6 teams in a league) instead of attending OVA tournaments. If you love the game but are not an elite player, we recommend either the Development League or the Champions League.
